PhotoShelter Collection Bites the Dust

by Bill on September 11, 2008

In a major blow to my fledgling stock career, my sole agency PhotoShelter Collection called it quits today. I really admired what they where trying to do there and wish them all the best with there Archive service. It was never going to be easy but from a business standpoint you have to pull the plug.

So where do I go next? Almay?, iStock(bleh), DigitalRailroad? I would rather not go micro so please let me know where some good RM agencies are.

Bummer. PhotoShelter is the sole avenue I’ve been going down too. I’m interested in seeing what others have to say. Additionally I have an Almay account, but haven’t uploaded any images yet. That might be the approach I’m leaning towards.

Yes, very sad to see them go. At least they tried and challenged the market.

I personally submit to traditional stock Alamy, PSC and other smaller agencies certain pictures. And i also spot pictures that are meant for microstocks and sell theme there. I think it works fine for me.

Yeah I am going to give Alamy a shot, looks like I am going to have to get a copy of Genuine Fractals…

I had 3 sales at Zymmetrical in August. They pay 70% commission so that was $49.70 to me. More of a mid-stock site. Still in the beta phase, but seem to be doing a lot of things right. I hope they do well - I love that they let us set our own price and that they give such a good % to the artist.

Good to see you blogging again, Bill.

Bad to see PhotoShelter go under though…

@Sean, now that I am not uploading to PSC I have a lot more free time :-)
